ಬಣ್ಣಗಳ ಹಬ್ಬ ಹೋಳಿ (Holi | Kids | Kalakand) Holi, the festival of colors, changing seasons, togetherness, and pure joy. It is one of those beautiful festivals where fun itself becomes the celebration. This year, we chose to celebrate Holi in a very simple way by preparing Kalakandh together with our kids. It wasn’t the easiest experience. There were little fights, tantrums, and moments of irritation along the way. But beyond all of that, it was still incredibly beautiful. Because these are the moments that truly matter. Children grow up so fast, almost in the blink of an eye, but memories like these stay with us forever. Kalakandh has its roots in Alwar, Rajasthan, and is lovingly known as Alwar Kalakandh. This soothing and rich sweet is made from paneer and has a soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture. Even those who usually don’t enjoy paneer often fall in love with this delicate and comforting sweet. Sometimes the simplest celebrations filled with a little chaos, laughter, and love become the most memorable ones. And this Holi was exactly that 🌸❤️ RECEIPE: You can prepare paneer from fresh milk and follow the same process, but here we’ve used ready-made paneer for an easier method. For this recipe, I used 400g paneer. Grate or crumble the paneer well so there are no large lumps a slightly grainy texture is perfect for kalakand. In a thick-bottomed pan, bring some milk to a gentle boil, add the paneer, and cook on medium heat, stirring continuously so it doesn’t stick. Once the mixture starts thickening, add sugar and keep stirring until it becomes soft, grainy, and begins leaving the sides of the pan. Add saffron (optional) for color, along with cardamom powder, a little ghee, and finely chopped dry fruits for flavor. Transfer the mixture to a greased plate, spread evenly, and garnish with chopped nuts. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for about an hour. Cut into squares and serve. Kalakand is naturally soft and delicate, so the pieces may break, but it will taste just as delicious in any shape 💛🌸
