On ‘Shkatulka’ (Musicbox), Natalia Dzhusova reprises this poetic array of compositions she played on Obninsk Radio in the Soviet Union, in 1981, when she was merely 12 years of age. Through the sound of the instrument, which merges the gloss of modern felt piano techniques and the warmth of 80’s Soviet broadcasting textures, the compositions shine in a new and unique resonance. In the tension between the raw childlike emotion and the mature, sophisticated technicality, Natalia's journey emerges, a reflection on her childhood in the USSR, and a letter to her younger self. Natalia Dzhusova is a Classical Pianist,. Graduate of Gnesins Musical Academy in Moscow, and an experienced Piano teacher. Born in Obninsk in the USSR, she has dedicated her life to performing, studying, and since recently, recording her solo piano interpretations. While studying in Gnesins under Alexander Satz and Theodore Gutman, Natalia realized her unique sensibility and virtuoso technical control of the instrument, building a wide repertoire ranging from Bach to Rachmaninoff.
