Learn how to count your stitches and rows on a brioche knit swatch! This video explains how to count the stitches and rows in a knit swatch of even brioche (no increases or decreases). This is the most common way to measure gauge for brioche knit projects. How to calculate stitch gauge: Divide the total number of sts counted by the number of inches counted over. As per the video: 13 sts / 3.5" = 3.714 ** this is the number of sts in 1" Multiply the number by 4 to get the total number of sts over 4", i.e.: your stitch gauge over 4": 3.714 * 4 = 14.857 ** round this up to 15 How to calculate row gauge (super similar to stitch gauge): Divide the total number of rows counted by the number of inches counted over. As per the video: 16 rows / 3" = 5.333 Multiply the number by 4 to get the total number of rows over 4", i.e.: your row gauge over 4": 5.333 * 4 = 21.333 ** round this up to 21.5 The resulting project/swatch gauge is 15 sts and 21.5 rows / 4" (10 cm). _____ If you're comfortable with measuring your gauge and want to start a non-intimidating even brioche knit project, check out my Basync Brioche pattern- a cowl in 3 different weights! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/libr...
