The Fill Layer in Affinity Photo has a curious and useful property whereby you can use it like a mask, for example by exposing only a part of the image to create a popping effect or to do selective colour change. Addendum: You can change the fill layer colour after painting on it, but you must first move away from the paintbrush, for example to the Move tool.
