We all struggle with our chip shots and pitch shots around the green from time to time. Me Too A few years back I was playing a golf tournament and all of a sudden I started duffing my chip shots and pitch shots. Thinking it was just a little blip I ignored it. However over the following weeks it got worse and worse. I remember it getting so bad that I would take my putter at every opportunity I could, even if I was 20 yards off the green. I just couldn't get the fear of duffing my chip shots out of my mind. At University at the time I decided to travel home and visit my old golf coach Bill Fergusson. Bill was a legend in the game, coach to Colin Montogomerie through his junior career and 7 order of merits Bill had a magical way of making the game simple. After struggling for months Bill had me striking my chip shots solid within 15 minutes of an hours lesson. As was Bill's way he spent the rest of the 45 minutes getting me to play off tight lies, plug lies you name it. If he could find a shocker of a lie he would put me in it. "you don't get to play golf off nice fluffy lies on the golf course so why waste your time practicing them here" In todays golf lesson I'd like to pass on 5 of Bills short game secrets that have served me so well over the years.
