I took two small, unpredictable pieces of cottonwood burl… and gave them a backbone of rich walnut. What started as three separate scraps became one stunning, unified piece on the lathe. Cottonwood burl is always a bit of a gamble—voids, wild grain, and the constant risk that everything could come apart mid-turn. But that’s also what makes it worth it. Paired with the strength and contrast of walnut, this blank turned into something far greater than the sum of its parts.
