September marked 'Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters' and Minnesota's Deer River Public Schools ISD #317 high school paid respects by participating with a march. Native Report was present at the march and wanted to learn more about the history behind the day in order to share it with you all, so we spoke with residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad who serves as the Orange Shirt Society Executive Director. Her story inspired Orange Shirt Day - Every Child Matters which falls on Sept. 30th annually in recognition of the harm of Canada's residential school system and is intended to open the door globally to discussion.
