SigmaWeld and The Indian Institute of Welding Mumbai Branch bring you Episode 27 of Weld Tech Talk about "Practical Challenges in #welding of #aluminum  " by Dr. V Ananthnarayanan When: 13th May (Saturday), 2023 at 17:00 (IST)Topic: “ Practical Challenges In The Welding Of Aluminum ” Aluminum alloys are inherently difficult to weld due to their low melting temperatures, thermal conductivity, and affinity for oxygen. This presentation will present alloy basics, common and innovative welding processes used, and discuss the weldability of a variety of alloys. Weld microstructures and heat-affected zone hardness profiles will be presented. Methods of improving the microstructures using innovative methods will be presented along with resultant improvement in properties. Practical difficulties in commonly used robotic arc welding of aluminum door frames and resistance spot welding of aluminum alloy sheet metal for automotive applications will be presented. Salt-water corrosion issues of welded aluminum alloy structures and methods of mitigating them will be discussed briefly.
