Two and a half years ago, Fiona Phillips revealed her Alzheimer’s diagnosis publicly, a disease that has already touched her life as both her mum and her dad lived with it. From then, both Fiona and Martin campaigned for better care for those living with forms of dementia, and the families who care for them, leading to the publication last year of Fiona’s emotional memoir, ‘Remember When… My Life With Alzheimer’s.’ The huge response the family received has spurred husband Martin to continue his work to break the stigma around Alzheimer’s, and to implore Health Secretary Wes Streeting to do more for people with it - as one in three children born today will develop a type of dementia. Away from the campaigning, Martin tells us how Fiona is doing now - how music spurs her memories, the guilt he feels as her carer, and the touching letter Kate McCann sent Fiona recently.
