Here's my lyrical version of Snowman from EarthBound/MOTHER! I've been performing this exclusively on my stream for years, and have been wanting to finally produce this ever since! For this video, I mixed modern, snowy locations with split screen vgm vibes of the actual recording sessions, as a comfy throwback to like 2015. Which was like..a few years ago, right?! For the song, I focused on making it atmospheric, and lonely yet hopeful with the choices of instrumentation, synths, and vocal harmonies. For the lyrics, I focused on the themes of the game, including direct references to things like "Winters" (the location) FoggyLand (region in the game), and the quote "In Winters…there is a genius". In that lyric, I'm also referencing the magic of each snowflake being different, as well as each person having their own unique power and talents (in the game and in real life)! I also focus on the theme of Jeff and Dr. Andonuts. The lyrical theme relates to relationships in real life where someone feels like an outsider to a person they wish to be closer to, but sort of accept the dynamic. The theme of loneliness, especially in youth, is something I strongly relate to and encapsulates the vibe of winter so it feels great to sing this song. Blending fantasy with reality is one of my favorite thing to do when writing lyrics. Winter and snow is also my favorite season and vgm subgenre!
