The Historic Occoneechee Speedway, located in close proximity to Hillsborough, NC, and Interstate 85, is steeped in history. Having once been a 1-mile dirt track sanctioned by NASCAR, it distinguished itself as one of the first two tracks on the NASCAR circuit, launching in 1949 with its first race in August, won by Bob Flock. The speedway's last competition occurred in September 1968, with Richard Petty emerging as the victor.
