Sue Dawes is in her final year of a PhD in Creative Writing at Essex University. Influenced by the way feminist utopian writers of the 70s explored gender, Sue is writing a non-binary speculative utopia called The Mune. This novel imagines an alternative history of the C19th, combining Victorian fantasies of otherworldly travel and adventure, with a thought experiment, which asks: what if Victorian women were freed from a patriarchal society, allowing children to be raised without gender and sex categories? Sue is also a manuscript editor and an associate editor for Short Fiction Journal.
