Armed conflicts take a terrible toll on combatants and civilians: nowadays there are many examples of disregard of the laws of war. Yet, instances of compliant behaviour show that existing rules applicable during armed conflict – i.e. international humanitarian law (IHL) - are adequate and, if respected, can significantly reduce human suffering. IHL in Action – Respect for the law in the battlefield is a database that documents real life examples of respect for IHL across the globe.
