Today's CNA Hero lived a short but powerful life. Her empathy helped her make a difference in many people's lives. Mackenzie "Kenzie" Jo Leeman, a high school senior in Appleton, Wisconsin had suffered from depression earlier in her high school years. With treatment she regained her footing and that experience made her want to help others and work in the health care field. She was always willing to talk about her experience and treatment so that others might get the help they needed. With the help of a few dedicated teachers, she was able to obtain her CNA license by the end of her junior year. When she started this school year as a senior in the fall of 2018, she went to Appleton East HS in the morning, Fox Valley Tech right after, and worked as a CNA at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Appleton on the 2 to 10 shift. It was her goal to complete the RN program and eventually become a nurse anesthetist. According to Kenzie's mother, more than anything, family was her driving force. She loved fiercely and deeply and would do anything for her loved ones. She had a special relationship with her great grandma whom she even took her senior photos with. Sadly, Kenzie died as a result of a tragic car accident February 26 on her way home from work-one month shy of her 18th birthday. This is a tremendous loss for her family, her friends, and the residents she took care of at the nursing center. The world lost an empathetic caregiver-of which we need so many of. Even in death, Kenzie gave life, as she was an organ donor. I wear this shirt today in honor of Kenzie. It says Love and from everything I have read, Kenzie was full of love for all.
