Tirupati Temple News: Polyester Shawls Sold As Silk In Rs 54 Crore Scam In Tirupati Temple A fresh scandal has erupted at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, adding to a growing list of controversies surrounding one of the world’s richest temples. Vigilance officials have uncovered large-scale irregularities in the procurement of silk dupattas over a ten-year period, from 2015 to 2025. Now, officials say that for years, the TTD was supplied fake silk dupattas, even though they were billed as a polyester–silk mix. The result is an estimated loss of more than 54 crore rupees to the temple trust. According to investigators, a contractor supplied nearly 15 thousand dupattas at an inflated price of 1389 RS per piece, claiming they were made of silk. But when samples were sent to two laboratories – including the Central Silk Board – both confirmed the truth: the dupattas contained no silk at all. They were made entirely of polyester.
