To kick off Pride 2020 at Microsoft Vancouver, GLEAM Vancouver and MSVan welcomed Dr. Aaron Devor, Chair in Transgender Studies and Academic Director of the Transgender Archives at the University of Victoria, for a conversation on Transgender people, then and now. In this event Aaron guides us through some of the history of the Trans Movement and answers viewer questions, in a Q&A conversation moderated by GLEAM. With this event now publicly available on our channel, we hope to continue moving this conversation forward in Vancouver tech community and beyond. The More We Talk, The More We Understand. The Transgender Archives is a collection of is documents, rare publications, and memorabilia of persons and organizations associated with activism by and for trans, nonbinary, Two-Spirit, and other gender-diverse people. Records go back into the 19th century and are in 15 languages from 23 countries on all continents except Antarctica. This collection is the largest of its kind in the world and it is actively growing. Aaron Devor PhD has been studying and teaching about transgender topics since the early 1980s. He established and holds the world’s first Chair in Transgender Studies; founded and hosts the international, interdisciplinary Moving Trans History Forward conferences; and founded and is the Academic Director of the world’s largest Transgender Archives. He is an author of numerous articles and five books on transgender topics and has delivered lectures to audiences around the world, including more than 35 keynote and plenary addresses. He is a professor at the University of Victoria, a national-award-winning teacher, an elected member of the International Academy of Sex Research, and an elected Fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. https://www.uvic.ca/research/transchair/ https://mcec.microsoft.ca
