Video transcript: We're Big Local - creating lasting change We saw a need for help so we… just did it! We needed to lift people’s spirits and open their eyes. So we made a plan. We believe in our community so we brought people together and built on our strengths We saw the need for change so we harness local skills and share them around We were fed up of the negatives so now we work to make them positives We’d been taught to think small so we cut the bars from our cages! We’re Big Local - creating lasting change We wanted answers - so we asked the people that matter We’d lost our voice so now we’re fighting for it back again We are who we are so we won’t take it lying down! We want power so we get organised We will be on the agenda not on the menu! We’re Big Local - creating lasting change We saw a broken community so we opened the doors - to welcome and acceptance, progress and fun We had a village divided by old and new houses so we set up a marquee on the green and met in the middle We saw children on the street so we opened the doors and called them in We had massive challenges so we found our secret super powers (we all have one, at least! What’s yours?!) We saw communities in the dark so we worked to bring them light. Let there be light! We’re Big Local - creating lasting change We saw loneliness and isolation in our older folk, eyes down, so we use bingo to welcome them into our… House! Now everyone’s a winner! We started a knit and natter group. We don’t do much knitting but the nattering gets things sorted! We can all get a bit down, can’t we? So we try and have a good laugh when we can. If we didn’t laugh we’d bloody cry. So we keep smiling. Help each other through. (Two sugars in mine, ta!) And when we’ve felt like giving up we found the motivation - together – and that’s spurred us on We know that things are hard so we tell ourselves something good every day Like we needed the kids to gain confidence and now we have 200 playing football every week. “Come on you greens!” “Come on you greens!” We’re Big Local - creating lasting change We do it because someone needs to. My lad says “why do you do it, Mum, when hardly anyone turns up? I say “I live in hope, son. I live in hope. People need hope” And we have high hopes for our young people so we’ll never give in We know that some ideas will be a stretch but we’ll never stop trying We know what we want for our area so we will make it happen! So we turn up and we link up and we set up and we meet up and we brew up and we catch up and we cheer up and we call up and we gear up and we clean up and we line up and we stand up and we speak up and we leg up and we build up and we lift up and we rise up we’ll never, ever, ever give up We are proud of our local community so we want to shout about it!
