"Maureen Fleming mesmerizes... as earth goddesses go, she's the real black madonna" -The Boston Globe an excerpt from WILDFLOWERS, A Feminine Genesis Directed Choreographed and Performed by Maureen Fleming Light and Visual Design by Christopher Odo Music by Philip Glass: Mad Rush Live Piano by Bruce Brubaker "A consummate artist, who has melded the diverse aspects of her life itinerary, aesthetic and physical, into a seamless performance that is nothing short of magnificent." —The Dance Enthusiast (on Fleming's Wildflowers) Presented live by La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, Irish Arts Center and The O' Shaughnessy Women of Substance in 2018-2019, WILDFLOWERS, A Feminine Genesis is inspired by the lush symbolism of Irish poet William Butler Yeats. Internationally acclaimed dance artist Maureen Fleming invents surreal movement poetry, curving into shapes of shattering beauty. Featuring live music by renowned Irish composer and violinist Colm Mac Con Iomaire (founding member of the Frames) and uilleann piper James Mahon, with pianist Bruce Brubaker performing music of Philip Glass, Fleming juxtaposes her singular movement with brilliant lighting and 3D projections by longtime collaborator Christopher Odo. Exploring the “immortal waters” of the mystical feminine, Wildflowers asks: “Is immortality an elusive paradigm or present in the here and now?” “Fleming... seemed to transcend the material world and enter a realm of pure spirit...a wondrous choreographic metamorphosis.”—The New York Times on Maureen Fleming “A classically trained head, a transient folk-soul, and an indomitable traditional heart.”—The Irish Times on Colm Mac Con Iomaire © Maureen Fleming Company
