In this episode, We visited the historic village of Howardsville to explore a property filled with deep American history Located in Bluemont Virginia Founded in 1874, just nine years after the Civil War, Howardsville was established by formerly enslaved men Jacob Howard and Andrew Cosberry. After gaining their freedom, they purchased land, brought their families, and built a thriving community that once housed over 100 residents. Jacob Howard was a skilled stone mason who used his craft to help shape the village, leaving behind foundations and structures that still tell the story of the people who once lived here. Today, the goal isn’t to erase the past with modern development, but to preserve it. Instead of tearing down the original structures, the vision is to honor the history and continue the legacy of Howardsville. In this video, Steve Simons walks us through one of the original homes and teaches us more about the powerful story behind this historic community. And this is only the beginning. The story continues in Part 2. Stay tuned.
