Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (Civ4,CivIV) Goal: 1 Trillion Population in a city in the earliest year possible. Achieved Population = 1000*1638^2.8= 1.00018172 Trillion Method Overview: Use Farms, Cereal Mills and Great Merchants to provide extra food and increase the population of the city. Speed: Marathon: Future Tech usually takes 1 turn even on Marathon. Turns: 28325 (Lots of AFK). Date: June 4285 Civics: Representation: Need research to get tons of Future Tech (health and happiness) quickly. Bureaucracy: Bonus commerce and production in capital makes sense since there are no towns or standing armies. In testing Vassalage results in more money saved. Caste System: For unlimited Merchant specialists, for cash and to produce more Great Merchants. Free Market: For cheaper corporations. Pacifism: For more Great Merchants. Frederich of Germany: Philosophical: For more Great Merchants Organized: For cheaper corporations If I did an unrestricted leader I would have chosen Rome for the Forum and great person boost. Custom Game: No opponents or barbarians Mod: No global warming: Plots of land becoming useless desert would probably make my goal impossible. Custom map: All grassland with corn or plain hills with copper (for cities). All other resources located near capital. Rivers for irrigated corn food bonus and Levee production bonus. Note that this design was from previous iteration with 3x3 city placement, which ultimately proved to be too many cities for my computer to handle. Once Cereal Mills food bonus gets high, corporate maintenance payments increase. City population also has a large impact. These payments cause the city to lose massive amounts money. There is a game mechanic that avoids this: Celebration: We Love The King Day: This eliminates all maintenance fees for a city, including corporation payments, for one turn. The city must not have any angry citizens, then the probability of WLTKD is Population/1000. When population exceeds 1000, WLTKD occurs 100% of the time and thus eliminates corporation payments! There is a balance that must be achieved, between losing all cash if expanding Cereal Mills to quickly, or having the game draw out longer due to slow expansion. An alternative is to wait to spread Cereal Mills until the resources to support 1000 population cities is achieved, then spread the corp as fast as possible before going on strike. Let the cities grow and eventually they will become profitable due to WLTKD. Great person explosion: For some unknown reason, as shown in this video about 700 great merchants are produced over a few turns. This greatly sped up the last turns to 1638 pop, and would have been nice earlier. National Epic in Trillion City. It produces the most Great Merchants. Also used Globe Theater for happiness boost which wasn’t really necessary due to Future Tech. Wall Street would have been better. 169 cities total. When culture of a city hits numeric limit, it rolls to zero and stays there. Automatically every new citizen becomes an Artist in order to build culture. This is why I have artists in Trillion City, I did not change them to merchants yet. This is very annoying. If I were to continue this method the population would probably increase indefinitely. Note that too many cities on a large map will cause the game to crash. If you have ideas for improvement I'd like to read it below!
