See the decline of monarchy as a system of governance from its dominance of the world in the 17th century to its isolation to just a few countries and its confinement to purley ceremonial roles in the 21st century. Some important things to note: This video doesn't include subnational monarchies, or subnational republics Vassal states aren't included either Territories which are considered unoccupied or controlled by tribal systems of governance are lumped in as "monarchies" in the map. Although, I did neglect to include some of these tribal areas which did use republican systems of government, such as the Maori, the Igbo, and many others. This is a simplified map, and does not differentiate between constitutional and absolute monarchies Puppet states aren't included
