1997 KONE TMS50e (mod. Soutec) Traction Elevator (Passenger) - 463 2-S St. - GO, BR

A KONE TMS50e traction elevator from 1997, modded in 2019/20 by Soutec, a local company, in a basic residential apartments building. It's the immediate neighbor to the tower I live in, both were built by the same construction firm around the same time. There are two elevators, side by side, this is the one solely for passengers. The other car was spared from being modernized, it's exactly what this one looked like before. The other elevator:    • 1997 KONE TMS50e Traction Elevator (Servic...   About the elevator, it got recently modernized by a small local company, Soutec Elevators, using generic parts. Cab is basic and very small, it's wider than it's deeper, and is a mirror image of the other elevator. All in stainless steel, no decorations or details, just the usual mirror on the back wall, with a very low and thin handrail below it. The interior was left mostly unchanged during the mod, only slightly renewed, with polished walls and a new floor. The ceiling panel with LED lights is the only completely replaced part in both cars. The new fixtures are Elevcom panels using ELX 700 buttons. The internal panel is their Lumina surface mounted totem type. It looks good, fits nicely in the interior design. The decorative color LED stripes on the sides of the COP are a very nice optional detail, I rarely see ones that choose having that. The car panel has an integrated intercom and a box for a phone on the bottom. Only the latter works, since it's part of the existing intercom system of the building, the integrated one is unused, as they come by default on these panels and couldn't be added to the building's system. The COP and call stations have the real name of the condo placed as a logo, those are meant for each installer company to put their own logo, but some also offer to have the building's name on there instead, a little form of customization. Soutec does this a lot on their mods that I've seen, but never puts their own logo on the panels. Uncommon in generic mods, here they installed separate overhead hall indicators. Generally they have indicators on the call stations (as it was with the original fixtures here, which is why this is even weirder), and when they do use separate ones, they put them in the door frame, it's much more practical and faster to do, no need to cut into walls. Strange that they chose to it this way in a small residential mod, it looks good, but it's too high up, and can go unnoticed for some passengers. Quite good in overall performance. The new Schmersal controller is one of the best in the market, with it's Danfoss VF drive. Ended the 50e's/MR12's big bumps in the car when changing speeds, but still takes the same time to level. Acceleration, travel speed, leveling, delays, are the same as the original car, I noticed few differences between the two on that. This one runs and operates very decently too. On the bad side, the cab vibrates and creaks loudly during travel, even worse than the original. The big improvement is the ride being much smoother thanks to the VF control, no big bumps like the other one, starts and slows down seamlessly, much more comfortable. The new motor is much louder than the old Kone, the VF sound can be heard all through the shaft, must be quite bothering for residents in the upper floors. It does sound quite epic when picking up speed though, the "computery" sounds it makes when starting up are kinda cool, never heard that on other Schmersal mods. Ironically, the brake bangs of this new machine sound more like Kone's typical brake bangs than the other car that still has the original machine and barely makes brake sounds. Door operator is original, runs them very smoothly. Maintenance is on the hands of the local company that modded it, Soutec, but reportedly they're doing a good job, had no complaints about their service. Specifications: Manufacturer: KONE, mod. Soutec, (local company) Maintainer: Soutec (local company) Model: TMS50e (originally) Fixtures: Sectron Series 100 (24V/gray ver.), mod. Elevcom Lumina COP w/ ELX 700 buttons Type: Passenger Residential Hoisting: Traction Doors: 2-speed sliding, manual landing doors Capacity: 420 kg/6 persons (apx. 925 lbs.) In Service: 1997, mod. 2019/20 Floors Served: 12 (SS - P* - 1/10) Operation: Kone TMS50e Electronic controller, Kone MR12 AC-driven machine, mod. Schmersal digital controller, w/ Danfoss VF drive Rating: 9/10 - Good mod, very well done and fitted into the original really nicely. Didn't see any problems or glitches, runs really well, save for the loud vibrations and creaks inside the cab. Decently efficient, although it's original counterpart to the side still runs as good as this too. The VF motor sounds epic, but it's much, much louder tham the other car. Have to say, they did a good job on this mod, and it seems to be doing really well now. Shot: October 18, 2022 Camera: Samsung Galaxy A52 © 2022 L. Naves
