There are certain types of stress it can handle well and cause it to adapt and become more healthy and flexible. These types of stress are shorter forms of intense stress. Think short fasts, short intense workouts & short periods of calorie reduction. It also does well with longer mild/gentle stressors like long periods of leisure walking or longer subtle calorie reduction. It does not do well with long moderate stress and does worst with long intense stress. This is one of the reasons long moderate and long high intensity physical exercise results in metabolic compensations for most people. It’s why fasts lasting longer than a few days can backfire. It’s why long periods of calorie restriction often end with extreme hunger, cravings and a reduction in metabolic rate resulting in weight regain. The metabolism works best when food and exercise follow the Goldilocks rule… not too much, not too little, but just right. And that varies for every person. #nextlevelmetabolism
