Squadron 303 — the best fighter squadron in the entire Battle of Britain. The story the West refuses to remember. Summer nineteen forty. The Luftwaffe attacks Britain in waves. RAF pilots are falling — reserves are running out. Fighter Command is on the verge of collapse. Then the Poles arrive. On the thirtieth of August nineteen forty Flying Officer Ludwik Paszkiewicz broke orders during a training flight — shot down a Messerschmitt and wrote history. The next day Squadron 303 was declared operational. In forty two days of combat — one hundred and twenty six enemy aircraft destroyed. Three times more than the average British squadron. Five percent of pilots responsible for twelve percent of all victories in the entire Battle of Britain. Air Chief Marshal Dowding later wrote that without the Polish squadrons and their unsurpassed gallantry he hesitated to say whether the outcome of the battle would have been the same. And yet on the eighth of June nineteen forty six Poland did not march at the Victory Parade in London. It was not until two thousand and five — sixty years after the war — that Polish veterans officially marched in London for the first time.
