A Dalit techie was hacked to death in daylight. His only crime was loving someone from another caste. The accused was apparently the son of two police officers. Kavin Selva Ganesh was a 27-year-old software engineer from Chennai—ambitious, in love, and Dalit. Last month, he went to visit his sick grandfather in Tirunelveli. Outside the hospital, he was lured by his girlfriend’s brother, Surjith, who said their parents wanted to talk. But what followed wasn’t a conversation—it was a brutal honour killing. Surjith stopped the bike, pulled out a sickle, and murdered Kavin in broad daylight. The motive? Caste. The girl belonged to a Most Backward Class. And her parents—both police officers—allegedly incited the killing. Locals say they’d threatened Kavin before. Now they’re named co-accused under the SC/ST Atrocities Act. Kavin isn’t the first. He joins a long list of Dalits in Tamil Nadu murdered for crossing caste lines in love. From Udumalai Shankar to the Tiruppur killings earlier this year—Tamil Nadu records some of the highest caste-based honour killings in India. 345 villages here are officially “atrocity-prone.” Between 2014 and 2023, at least 187 recorded caste killings. And let’s not even get started on the unrecorded ones. We call ourselves the land of Periyar and social justice. But yet incidents like this continue to occur. #JusticeForKavin #DalitLivesMatter #CasteIsViolence #TamilNadu #HonourKilling #DailyPinnacle #SocialJustice #SpeakUp #StopCasteCrime #KavinSelvaGanesh #SCSTAct [Dalit techie murder, honour killing, inter-caste love, caste-based violence, Tamil Nadu, Tirunelveli, Kavin Selva Ganesh, SC/ST Atrocities Act, police complicity, caste crime]
