(20 Jan 2017) Russian Duma deputies expressed hope on Friday that relations between the US and Russia will improve following the inauguration of Donald Trump. Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Vladimir Zhirinovsky said that the inauguration is a holiday for the whole country and should not be disrupted by other parties and opposition. Leonid Slutsky, head of the Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed his hope for an improvement of Russian-US relations. Trump's promises to fix the ravaged relations with Moscow have elated Russia's political elite amid spiralling tensions with Washington over the Ukrainian crisis, the war in Syria and allegations of Russian meddling in the US elections.
