Shifting sands at a beach in Cornwall have uncovered a mysterious wooden box, believed to be the remains of the top of a 200-year-old mine shaft. Following recent stormy seas and huge spring tides, sand has been swept away from the western end of the beach at Praa Sands, revealing the rectangular structure. It is believed that the wooden box, which measures roughly two metres in width and three metres in length, marks the entrance to a shaft for the Sydney Cove Copper Mine - one of the few mines in Cornwall where access was from the beach.
