In this video, Richard Humphrey talks about being a Black roller skater and answers the question ”What does it mean to you to be a Black roller skater?” He says that “He sees himself as a roller skater, sayinng he doesn’t use his Blackness as a way to see himself as a skater. He uses his skating as a way to see himself as a roller skater. Rich explains that he chooses to look past colors. We just sees people and each other as family. As Black people, we put a lot of things in place, especially in roller skating and dance. A lot of other minorities followed us. You can see this same influence in things like Hip Hop. The influences of many white, latino and asian skaters have had Black influences that deserve credit. “Give credit to those who influence you. Give credit where credit is due.” Rich says.
