Date(s) filmed: Thursday the 24th of July / Wednesday the 27th of August 2025 Videos filmed at: 11:31 / 13:08 | 13:16 | 13:34 Route: North Downs Line Between Chilworth (CHL) and Shalford (SFR) Stations Crossing type: Automatic Half Barrier Crossing (AHBC) Filming location: A248 Dorking Road, Chilworth (GU4 8NE) Featuring: - @UKLevelCrossingsChannel - @ElectraLevelCrossings - @RH_TransportPhotography - @UKLCSandT A large automatic half barrier crossing in the middle of the village of Chilworth near Guildford, Surrey. As of the dates of filming, this level crossing likely has the longest remaining Mk. 1 'Penguin' barriers anywhere of the 40 left with them in the UK, these ones dating back to 1974. One of these barriers also causes the crossing to 'tail ring' with the lights and alarms briefly re-activating just as it raises. However, this set-up will soon be no more as the line will be re-signalled with a higher line speed and capacity, and this crossing will be fully renewed to a full-barrier CCTV level crossing as part of that.
