Exploring nature and history at Colt Creek State Park, a beautiful wilderness near Lakeland, Florida. The area borders the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve and has an array of recreational activities to enjoy and where you can experience Florida nature all around. The area has plenty of lakes for fishing or canoeing/kayaking. Camping and picnic shelters along with many many miles of trails. The park is popular for equestrian access as well. I enjoy roaming the trails and off the beaten path places, it’s always a great adventure here. Along the way I discovered some evidence of the turpentine industry once active in this area during the early 1900’s. Logging, turpentine, ranching and mining were all industries here at one time. Turpentine was once Florida’s largest industry and had an array of uses from medicinal to industrial. Check the links posted to learn more on the history and about this park.
