Salar de Uyuni, the Salt Flats of Bolivia for 4-days

In this video, we will take you with us on our 4-day tour through Salar de Uyuni, the Bolivian salt flats. Are you wondering if you can get altitude sickness in Salar de Uyuni? Bad news, we got altitude sickness on our 2nd night in the Bolivian salt flats. We now need to deal with this emergency and get to a lower elevation. We had planned on a 4-day tour through the Atacama Desert. Unfortunately, Meghan got severe altitude sickness and we had to cut our trip short. Our first thought was it was food poisoning as the food we had been eating on our tour wasn't very good. However, as time passed and we analyzed her type of sickness it became clear she had altitude sickness. We organized an early exit and canceled our trip a day early. We managed to get a taxi to pick us up at the Chile border and take us to San Pedro. We were planning on going to the hospital, however, we then decided to wait a few hours at a lower altitude and see how her body adapted. When we arrived at our hotel, we ordered a large bottle of orange juice and some water and then Meghan fell asleep and didn't wake up for 16 hours. The next day she felt much better, still sick but much better and the day after that she was back to her normal self. The elevation in San Pedro, Chile is half of the high mountain ranges we're in Bolivia. We now have a few days to spend in San Pedro, before we make our way to Santiago, Chile.
