Lukla to Phakding Everest Trek After landing and meeting my guide and porter, I walked thru busy Lukla with many shops, hotels, restaurants, bakeries and coffee shops. Yaks are ready to transport luggage. Donkeys are used to transport goods. Most luggage is carried by porters. You have to pay a tax to the local municipality before leaving Lukla. The beginning of the Everest trek starts easily with a descent. The trail soon passes the first of many mani walls, chortens, and prayer wheels. Remember to always circumambulate clockwise. The trail then crosses the first of many high narrow metal bridges. The village of Ghat has the best collection of mani rocks and walls, prayer wheels and chortens on this trek. A short distance later, the trail enters the long village of Phakding, which continues on the other side of the Dudh Kosi River.
