In today’s service call, Fabian, one of Colair’s expert technicians, was dispatched for a routine maintenance check on an HVAC system that is nearing 10 years old. Systems at this age often begin to develop issues — especially if they haven’t been regularly maintained. As HVAC units get older (typically 10+ years), common problems can include: ✅ Dirty coils and motors ✅ Torn or soiled ductwork, especially after a unit replacement ✅ Electrical components beginning to fail ✅ Systems starting to “over amp” In this case, the unit was pulling 114.9 amps, even though the maximum safe limit for the part should have been 96.7 amps. When a system pulls more than the recommended maximum, it can lead to serious problems such as: ⚠️ Compressor rotor lockout ⚠️ Electrical part failures ⚠️ Higher energy bills ⚠️ Potential compressor breakdown The customer had already replaced the coil, blower motors, and updated the ductwork — everything looked clean and in great shape. The only issue discovered was the over amping electrical draw. 💡 Recommendation: Fabian suggested installing a hard start kit, which helps reduce electrical strain, prevent costly repairs, and protect the system from major failures. 🌟 Colair’s Maintenance Recommendation Colair strongly encourages regular maintenance for older HVAC systems to extend their lifespan and avoid unexpected breakdowns.
