In this episode, I examine Season of the Witch as a film about crisis theology—plague, fear, and the Church’s desperate attempt to maintain authority in a world that no longer responds to prayer. Witchcraft here isn’t rebellion or empowerment; it’s accusation, scapegoating, and the terror of uncertainty when belief systems begin to rot from the inside. Suspiria (2018) takes the inverse route. Where Season of the Witch clings to dogma, Suspiria abandons it entirely, presenting witchcraft as structure, lineage, and embodied ritual. Power is not moralised, not explained away, and not concerned with human comfort. Initiation is brutal, transformation is inevitable, and consent is complicated. This isn’t a ranking or a nostalgia exercise. It’s an occult reading of two modern films wrestling with authority, sacrifice, and the return of forces that civilisation pretends it has outgrown. If you’re interested in witchcraft beyond aesthetics, horror as initiatory experience, and cinema that functions like a working rather than a metaphor, you’re in the right place. #OccultCinema #SeasonOfTheWitch2011 #Suspiria2018 #Witchcraft #OccultAnalysis #EsotericFilm #HorrorAsRitual #Initiation #HiddenStructures #ModernMyth
