When the rain comes reflections on the emergency response to extreme rainfall​

🎤Speaker🎤 Ms Lorna Devenish Partnerships Manager University of Exeter 💡Abstract💡 Record-breaking rainfall hit Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire in September 2024, landing right on the small catchment where we have been working with local partners on a flood resilience innovation project. Hundreds of residents faced flooding and the councils had to sustain a 24 hour emergency response for over two weeks. In the aftermath, I interviewed six people directly involved with the emergency and captured their reflections. This is what I learned. ✨About Ms Lorna Devenish✨ I'm currently working with researchers in CWS on some industry-facing projects, helping to deliver outputs, scope new work and bid for new funding. I worked for six years developing markets for smart rainwater management systems and before that I worked in communications for South West Water focusing on catchment management and sustainable drainage systems.
