Sunrise to Sunset Railfanning the CSX Saint Louis Line

On August 20th, 2015 A friend and I set out for a Day along the CSX St. Louis Line. Our day started around 4:30am or so, but our first train didnt come till mid morning right about 10:30am. We were at the CSX CN Diamond in Effingham IL at the time, and this is where we spent most of our day. However as the light got better in the late afternoon we were hoping for a Westbound on the CSX so we could chase it back toward St. Louis and get a couple of a train past the former Conrail G Type "Bowling Ball" Signals. We got our wish when between 4:30 and 5pm the CSX J729-20 which had been working the Effingham IL area since mid afternoon called the CSX Dispatcher to ask for permission to head west down the main. The chase was on! As we were closing in on Altamont IL and we heard the UP defect detector go off. Knowing that UP had trackage rights on the CSX between Altamont and St. Elmo we knew the J729 would be behind that train so we shot the UP Train and when that had left, we raced to our location we wanted to shoot the J729 at. Coming across the crossing we could see the J729's headlight in the distance and so we set up. After it's passing we chased it further west and shot it one more time, however I didn't shoot the train at that location on video. After that the sun was going down and we headed toward home, and ending our Sunrise to Sunset Day along the CSX St. Louis Line. Train information below.
