In this video I show how I cut a geode with a tile saw. My son and I found geodes at Budway Geode Beds in the Utah desert. I ordered a diamond blade for a tile saw that I borrowed from a friend and cut about 15 geodes easily. This video creates anxiety in many who watch it and that was unintentional. What most people don’t know is this is not like a wood or metal cutting blade which will draw blood or take off a finger, hence the anxiety people may feel for my safety. It is a diamond bit blade (sounds sharp!) designed for “crushing” not cutting rock and is deceptively much safer if it accidentally makes contact with a finger. “Yay”! Gloves made it more difficult to do the job and I had little concern for an unlikely injury with this type of blade. Amazing how a little knowledge can change anxiety perceptions. I hope this dispels some of the anxiety people feel. It just “looks” so dangerous because it is, after all, a spinning “blade”. I bet anxiety still persists for some even knowing there was little to be afraid of in this case. I admit, I should have perceived the concerns and addressed them in the video. I was more caught up in trying to make the video letting people see how I cut geodes and how awesome they can look and not thinking about how dangerous it appears. Hmmm. Hindsight. :)
