In this 3-part series, mixing engineer Freemonk generously allows us to copy a page of his mixing notebook. Treating every mixing session as a performance, he was more than excited to put a shine to some gospel-tinged vocals over a heavily swung funk groove. Freemonk and assistant engineer Ivo Sotirov stayed true to the SSL 4000G console and other vintage analog gear at “The Friary Studios” but added various onboard real-time effects from their Orion 32+ | Gen 3. In the last part, Freemonk adds the finishing touches on the mix and shares a few words on the project and how he views every single mixing session.
