Music @ The Royal London Hospital - More classical piano performance excellence from Ruifan Xuan

Experienced international concert pianist Ruifan Xuan is a Master of Performance graduate of the Royal College of Music, having also been awarded a post-graduate Artist Diploma in Perfomance from the same College a year later. Her undergraduate first class degree was from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She is a multiple prize winner from a number of prestigious international competitions, and - now based in London - she has a busy schedule of both solo and collaborative performance and teaching/coaching at venues here and abroad. What is of even more significance however is the beautifully expressive way Ruifan plays. In addition to technical brilliance, her artisitic focus on capturing all the melodic contours and dynamic/rhythmic variations of each piece has a way of holding the listener's attention, and drawing out the music's emotional intensity, light or shade, playfulness or depth. Ruifan's obvious love for the piano started early as her mother is a distinguished professor of music in her native China, so her progress through professional training and performance was encouraged and marked by success at each stage. The piece recorded here is part of Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor (K. 457) - 3rd movement (Molto Allegro) Other delightful and well chosen pieces Ruifan performed today included: Mozart - Piano Sonata No.16 in C major (K. 545) - 1st movement Rachmaninov - from "Six Moments Musicaux" - Op.16 - V - Adagio Sostenuto in D flat major Chopin - Andante spinato et grande polonaise brillante - Op. 22 - I (Tranquillo) Thank you Ruifan for another truly enjoyable lunchtime recital!
