Lily's style with three men: Lily Powers is on her way up in the business world in this 1933 Warner Brothers film made in the pre-Code Hollywood era, although cuts were made to please the censors.* Here we see how Lily relates to three separate men: a co-worker who can do nothing for her (I haven't found the actor's credit); --her supervisor, whom she's using to advance further in the company (Douglas Dumbrille); --and a colleague she's liked, but has no more use for (John Wayne, in a small part before he was a star). Story reportedly by Mark Canfield, who reportedly was actually F. Daryl Zanuck, directed by Alfred E. Green. *According to Morgan B. Lockhart, the Production Code was actually adopted in 1930 but not really enforced until 1934. Still, upon its initial release in April 1933, Baby Face was rejected by the New York Censorship Board and cuts were made before its release a couple of months later.
