The distance from Panaji to Mumbai is approximately 550 km via National Highway 66. The worst road sections currently are between Lanja and Sangameshwar Approx 55 Kms, and between Mahad and Pen Approx 100 Kms. You will get many diversions here and road condition is also not up to the mark especially betweeen Lanja and Sangameshwar Apart from these stretches, the overall road condition is fairly good, and the highway is gradually improving day by day as construction work progresses. However, on Mumbai Goa Highway please drive at a controlled speed because some bad patches appear suddenly between good road sections. You may also encounter villages, intersections, and stray animals on the road, so extra caution is required. As of now, toll collection has not started on NH66.
