Great to be out on the water this morning with Rory Garven – City of Cockburn, Service Manager Sustainability and Ryan Lowe from the UWA Oceans Institute, visiting the North Coogee engineered fringing reef. Funded by a $600,000 grant through the Coastal and Estuarine Risk Mitigation Program (CERMP) under the Albanese Government, this WA-first project is reducing wave energy and helping protect the coastline from erosion. It’s also delivering fantastic co-benefits - doubling recorded fish species, boosting marine biodiversity and creating a great new snorkelling spot for the community. A smart, practical example of how we adapt to climate change while strengthening our local environment.
