On the coast of Lake Michigan I have observed destroyed beaches, broken staircases, and uprooted trees along the coast. Michigan's once predestine coastline, with thousands of miles of walk-able beaches now looks like a hurricane has passed through. Gale force winds of 40+ mph sustained winds for days at a time push the waters of the lake further on shore, washing the dunes away at their base. As this occurs the land below it slowly starts to shift, starting the beginning phases of the landslide. As this natural disaster is predicted to get worse by the U.S. Army Corps throughout 2020, property owners are planning their next move. Each storm that crosses over Lake Michigan poses a threat of high winds, coastal flooding, and extensive erosion.
