I’m watching the last of the oak & maples lose their leaves. For whatever reason I was thinking about my many tours of amazing China, between 2012 and 2016. Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Zhengzhou, Hong Kong, Wuxi, many other cities… ‘Great Escape’ is such an integral part of that story. I wrote it while on one of the trips, and for me it evokes a kind of urgency which reminds me of how I felt at the time. Music is like that – it can easily transport us back to a time and place we remember, bring back the vividness of those situations. I never would have done the 8 tours, the teaching, any of it, without the vision of Ariel Xu, who brought me over to Shanghai back in 2012. Enjoy ‘Great Escape’!
