How ADHD is Different for Older Adults Contrary to popular belief, ADHD doesn’t disappear with age—it persists throughout life, but the symptoms can transform as we grow older. In this episode, I explore how ADHD may look in adults over 60 compared to younger individuals: Physical hyperactivity in childhood may shift to mental hyperactivity in later years. Impulsivity in younger adults may become impulsivity in decision-making in older adults. Inattention may manifest as forgetfulness or difficulty organizing daily tasks in older adults. Misinterpreting these symptoms can lead to a misdiagnosis of cognitive disorders when the underlying issue is actually ADHD. That’s why understanding, identifying, and treating ADHD in older adults is crucial for their mental health and well-being. 📍 Helpful Resources for Clinicians 🎯 Download the Clinician’s Guide to Mental Health and Aging for free: ➡️ https://mentalhealthandaging.com/guide Reference: Fischer, S., & Nilsen, C.
