Liberia's Antoinette Tubman Stadium Undergoes Major Renovation with Moroccan Support The Point Africa News | SPORTS NEWS Excavation work has commenced at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia, Liberia, marking the beginning of a significant renovation project. The initial phase focuses on creating routes for underground services and enhancing the drainage system, following the removal of the old turf. This renovation is funded and implemented by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) as part of a technical cooperation agreement signed with the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in 2020. The agreement encompasses infrastructure development, capacity building, and equipment support. Key components of the project include the installation of state-of-the-art turf, the construction of a water station to serve both the pitch and the facility, and the erection of an inner fence. LFA Media Officer Anthony Kokoi emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, "This project not only promises to elevate the standard of facilities but also reflects the shared vision of fostering sports development and cooperation." The renovation is expected to last over six months, with contractors striving to complete the project on schedule. The decision to renovate the stadium was prompted by its deteriorating condition earlier this year, which had led to the closure of the stadium after match day one of the 2024/2025 season. The closure followed the circulation of photos on social media highlighting unsanitary bathrooms, unpainted seating areas, and other maintenance issues. This renovation project is part of a broader effort to enhance sports infrastructure in Liberia, aiming to provide better facilities for athletes and spectators alike. #LFA #Liberia #ATS #Sports #Africa #WorldNews #Morrocco
