Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2023 PQ Talks: Where to from Here? Towards the Future of Scenographic Practices This panel challenges the borders of common scenographic applications. It offers a platform through which we aim to critically engage with the issues of our time as we explore the agency of our practice. In 2020, with the arrival of the pandemic, the world paused. We suddenly found ourselves in the middle of nowhere. Performances left theatre buildings and other venues. Spatial performativity changed at all levels. Since our last meeting in Prague, daily actions had taken on a level of theatricality that transcended those of staged performances. This heightened theatrical nature of the new experience (also) stemmed from the ongoing global state of anxiety, uncertainty, and previously unknown uncanniness of spatial experience. This panel embraces that contemporary scenography is an open concept! We therefore offer a platform for discussion, guided by case studies from different parts of the globe, exploring the agency of our practice in the present moment. In doing so, we challenge the boundaries of common scenographic applications and critically engage with the issues of our time and the future of our discipline. About the speakers Nevena Mrdjenovic (University of Technology Sydney) is a theorist and designer with expertise in spatial design and scenography. Her research practice is concerned with the performative and poetic capacities of space. Miljena Vuckovic (Scenatoria) is a scenic designer, thinker and writer on spatial practices. Her main focus is on the perception, presentation and creation of space, its mutability, limits and potentials. Alex Tam Hung Man is an Artistic Director of Theatre Ronin in Hong Kong, theatre director, set and costume designer, screenwriter, curator, and university guest lecturer. Eric Villanueva Dela Cruz (University of the Philippines) is a transdisciplinary performance maker, founder of TAXI Theatre, Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines and member of the Philippine Educational Theatre Association. Aziza Kadyri is an interdisciplinary artist exploring migration, identity, and decolonisation through immersive projects using AR, performance design, textiles and costume. She is a creative lead at Blippar and a facilitator of XR workshops. About the curator Barbora Příhodová, curator of the discussion section PQ Talks at the last 15th PQ, has been involved in shaping the Prague Quadrennial since 2009.
