I started reading Shakespeare's plays in the last couple of years and have already collected quite a few different editions. Some I love, some I really don't! In this video, I compare three aspects of the following editions: The Arden Shakespeare The Oxford Shakespeare The Oxford School Shakespeare The Penguin Classics The RSC edition The Folger edition The three aspects that I'm comparing are: The general look and feel of the book, including things like: Do I like how it holds in my hands? Is the paper easy to write on? The essays and articles that are included in each edition: Which ones are geared toward scholars and designed for academic purposes? Which ones are for theatre enthusiasts and young students? The main text of the play: What is the layout like? Are the text and notes easy to read and follow? Which one is the least distracting if you want to read a play through? Which one has the best notes? Obviously, the preferences are mine and very subjective, but I hope this video will help when it comes to choosing an edition of #shakespeare for yourself! Happy reading! 0:00 intro 3:00 how do they look and feel 5:50 the essays included 14:59 how the main text is laid out 18:53 my verdict
