Washing and Styling Synthetic Blythe Hair

Episode 5 of the Blythe Series In this video, I demonstrate how I cleanse and add scent to the factory hair of my new coll. Rerooting is not in my plans for her just yet, so here is to lightly changing her manufactured locks she came with. Additionally, I wanted to see if dry styling her hair and leaving it a few days results in a held pattern, which it does! To de-shine: I used generic apple cider vinegar to strip some of the excess shine synthetic hair has to give a more natural look. This technique was provided by a hairdresser who maintains wigs. Put a splash of the ACV with about 3 cups of hot water. Soak 30 min. To wash: I used a couple pumps of hand soap, but I've seen human shampoo and laundry detergent used by other hobbyists. The hand soap worked great in my case at removing any ACV remnants and wasn't harsh given the acidic treatment the hair just went through from the step above. To deodorize/add scent: I used Downy Scent Boosters, comparable to liquid fabric softener. This step is the 'conditioning' aspect of the process. It is great for dolls with unruly hair to make it manageable again. Dissolve the beads and submerge the hair for 20 minutes. Rinse well following each step. Ring out the hair, or blot dry with a towel, or both! Style as desired and allow to air dry. I set her out overnight. It's been 2 weeks since filming this segment, and her hair's fragrance is pleasantly noticeable. The texture is still soft and manageable, and great color fastness. 🤗 I love those scented beads!
