We were able to walk through each of the processes of our transmission build, from tranny teardown, to valve body, to torque converter, all the way through the transmission build itself. The technology behind how a torque converter works can be confusing but ATS has it down to an exact science. There are way more steps involved than what we could even show in this video. ATS has many checks and quality control redundancies to ensure that they make a great product with the lowest failure rate as possible. It seemed like everything was pressure tested and balanced to make sure the converter was flawless. ATS doesn't bring outside parts in for their torque converters, they want to make sure they control all the variables. They have something like a 30,000sq ft machine shop upstairs that cuts raw material, piping, and ingots that are machined down for every part within the torque converter.. with maybe the exception of bearings. If you noticed, after the robotic welder, the torque converter is placed in a water tank and hooked up to 300psi of pressure to make sure the weld is perfect and does not contain any flaws. After that, the torque converter as a whole is balanced. With this torque converter, the stall was set up around that 2200-2300 range since the truck is running a smaller set of compounds and they have the ability of lighting early in the RPM's.
